I'm thinking about entering the Abbe Ranch HT and I was wondering what stabling was like? I'll probably get the stall for $50, but then I saw something about 10x20 pens for free. I'm assuming they're included w/ the stall. Can someone enlighten me?
Thanks! mkv

Yes, if you submit the stabling form and request the outside pen then it is free. They are sufficient, especially if your horse is used to being outside. Most people will bring a tarp and tie it across the top of the panels to create shelter. Keep in mind that it has downpoured rain at the end of cross country for the last 3 years straight, I believe! Every year I tell myself I will just pay for a stall so my horse doesnt get soaking wet, but then every year I argue with myself that it WILL NOT rain this year! But it does. Last year I requested a 10 x 20 pen but still hauled in every day just for my horses comfort. He was more comfortable hauling 30 mins rather than staying out in the weather. But it was nice to have the pen for when you are there all day, can just throw him in there with a haynet and water and not worry about trailer damage. ;D

Thanks for the info! Looks like we won't be able to do this one due to a scheduling conflict.

I have an Abbe stabling question as well. I have heard mixed feelings about the stabling, and need some advice. I figure that I'll be spending just as much to drive the pony back and forth in gas money everyday, so I am thinking I'll just suck it up and get a covered stall. I have heard that some are better than others. Any advice? 12x12 or 10x10. I figure if it is really bad I can always take him home, but I'd like to have the option for him to stay tucked in with a roof over his head.

Abbe is strange, they have like 3 different stabling options. One (I think the bigger ones?) is kind of an open pen but covered. Then there are a few stalls that are actually in the barn, and then I think she brings in some tent stabling too.
I guess that's not much help! I think the ones actually in the barn are the more expensive ones.
