What can you tell me about this event? I have heard both likes and dislikes, and I am trying to decide whether or not to enter (I've never been to this facility). Any thoughts on stabling, footing, fairness of XC and SJ?
Thanks ;D

I love this event. I think the people are great that run it and everything always goes smoothy. I think the stabling is great as well. The back of the stalls open up and your horse can look right outside. There nice and big too. And the best part is you just get to throw all your shavings and stuff into the alley way ! The XC is nice, not the hardest but diffenetly not easy. Great footing and wounderful water complex. The show jumping has the most color out of all the events (nice and bright!). That is diffenetly the hardest phase I think. I think it is a great event... I know I'm sending my entry in on the 4th!

I, for the most part, enjoy Penrose. Their cross country, at least for BN and N is not challenging at all. It was disappointing last year to be at the Area Championships in BN and have such an easy cross country, I dont think there were any problems out there at all and nothing is very big or technical at all. Showjumping was challengnig simply because it was in one of the lower dressage arenas and not in the stadium where they usually have it. (I guess the rodeo was in town that weekend and were using the stadium). Stabling is very nice, although it gets cluttered by Saturday night with all of the competitors there with their stuff thrown around the aisles ( ) but the stalls are big, although dark and not the best ventilation. We usually put the fans up like we did in KS. (Which I dont, for the life of me, know why I didn't think of the fans in KS until we saw the MN people with them! Now I have a big stash of horse show fans kept in my trailer, LOL) Guinness would have a super easy time of it! Dressage runs in two rings and one ring is indoors, so if he's ok with spooky indoors you'll have a great dressage test. I'm sure you'd do great with Guinness if you go. But isn't that awfully close to your wedding?!?! I thought you were only going to do a couple of HTs! LOL. Naw, with a good horse like Guinness I dont blame you for wanting to do more!

Hehe, you get the itch, and just have to scratch right?! I have made the plunge and sent in my entry. Depending on how he does at Aspen Ridge this weekend we may even move him up at Penrose! If not hopefully by the end of Sept for the Colorado Horse Park HT. He is going so well, I just can't get enough ;D I am just mad that I am going to be out of town for 2 weeks for the wedding! Luckily my barn mates will be able to chip in and help keep the big guy in shape! I'm sure the fiancee appreciates my priorities Heidi, are you planning on going back to Briar Fox this October?

Well, no showing at Penrose for me this year. I have to figure out what's wrong with my horse first. Looking into doing some medication for Headshaking Syndrome, I think he's photosensitive and that's causing our problems in dressage. He loves his jumping, so I think he tries to fight through it for those phases, but it's just so evident in his dressage and the headtossing is just getting worse. So he's going on his meds and then to a dressage show. I may or may not send in my entry for Championships; I guess if we get lucky and have our dressage indoors at Tomora we'll do fine! Anyway, you guys have fun at Penrose and kick some butt!! Carolyn, I don't know if I will go back to Briar Fox. There is a brand new horse trial down in New Mexico that a bunch of people are planning on going to. It is mid-November and I really want to go there, so we'll probably do that one instead and just stick with HP in October.

the footing is the furthest from great it is as hard as cement i would not go above training there and training is even pushing it! it is a great show other wise but the xc course is easy and the footing blows I love this event.
