Dear Competitors, BSEA members, and equestrian friends:
August 24, 2005
From: Diane Erhart, President, Big Sky Equestrian Association, Billings, Montana
I regret that I must inform you that all BSEA equestrian activities will be canceled through September due to the outbreak of vesicular stomatitis in Yellowstone County, Montana. This includes the towns of Huntley, Billings, Laurel, and Park City. The state veterinarian of Montana, Tom Lindfield, strongly recommends that any horse activity
which attracts out of state horses should be suspended until the vesicular stomatitis quiets down. This is a highly contagious disease and every horse owner should take preventive measures. If you have any questions about vesicular stomatitis, please contact your veterinarian.
This, of course, means that we must cancel the 2005 Arrowhead Horse Trials and Combined Tests. Even though our policy is ‘no refunds’ for event cancellations, we will refund as much as we can to everyone who has already entered, once we determine what our final costs are. The
Wyotana Challenge will be awarded based on Moonrock and Powder Basin results and John Thurman will be communicating the results to everyone soon.
The pair pace scheduled for this weekend will be postponed until a date in October.
On a lighter note, BSEA is working to put together a two-day eventing clinic Friday and Saturday, with a one-day un-recognized horse trial on a Sunday in October. Our other option will be to have a one-day cross-country course workday with a one-day un-recognized horse trial
the following day. The money generated from our clinics is one of the ways that BSEA helps to upgrade the cross- country jumps, stadium jumps and the footing at Warfield Equestrian Park.
The Jutta Schott Dressage clinic to be held on September 30, October 1st and 2nd is still on at this point in time. Updates on BSEA equestrian activities will be sent out as needed to be equestrian community.
Please come and support BSEA this October. This October will be when the fun begins!!
Please forward this email, snail mail or phone anyone who might have considered participating in any of BSEA events. I would rather see people getting duplicate emails than be missed on this important subject.
